Florida Sand Comes to Donna

Donna's dream of seeing the ocean came to us as a Make-A-Wish referral. Donna's niece had tried for months to get her Aunt's dream granted to see the ocean. Donna battled brain cancer for over 20 years and had undergone numerous brain operations. However, after the last operation, doctors told Donna that there was nothing more that could be done.

After Danielle contacted us, arrangements were put into action right away for a trip to the Gulf Coast of Florida. The dream, together with all the little extras, was put into place within 14 days and we were working to get airfare donated when we were told that Donna's health had declined and she was now not well enough to travel.

The great folks of the Community Foundation of Sarasota in Florida still wanted to do something for Donna, so they put together a box of goodies to ship to Donna in TN that included some seashells and a container of that famous sugar-white sand that Siesta Key, FL is noted for.

To go with that package, we pulled together some tropical plants, a painting of the beach, a fountain and several other little goodies and headed over to Donna to deliver her beach package.

Donna was so thankful for everything and everyone and I can attest that there were a few tears shed that day. She liked her hats...one pink, one blue (although she admitted that blue was her favorite color) and she enjoyed feeling the sand run between her fingers.

These photos were taken that Thursday when we delivered the beach package to Donna. The following week we learned that Donna was now walking the beaches of heaven.
