The Making of a Dream

THE WHY

Children lost a warm and caring father, grandchildren lost the "best ever" grandpa, and I lost my soul mate and loving husband of almost 30 years to cancer in 2007. As a loving spouse, I tried in vain to grant him his life-long dream, but was unable to find an agency that could help. The story however does not end here, but instead, this story just begins.

It is often said that a need creates an opportunity and so another dream was born just four short weeks after my husband passed away. You see, although I was not able to help him, I was determined to give others in the same situation the ability to experience simple joy and lasting memories for them and their loved ones. The Granting Dreams Foundation was founded to help fill a great need - to grant dreams for those ages 19 and older who have a life-threatening medical condition.

THE NEED

Many are not aware that childrens' wish granting organizations do not grant wishes for those who have passed their 18th birthday. This leaves over 550,000 people each year searching for someone to help. This is why the Granting Dreams Foundation was founded - to help ensure that, regardless of age, those facing their end-of-life journey, would have an opportunity to have their dream granted.

WE ALL KNOW SOMEONE 

Do you know a parent in the prime of their life that received the unimaginable news that he or she is losing their battle against cancer or one of many other deadly diseases? Perhaps it is a grandparent, a co-worker, or your neighbor. Imagine being a parent knowing you will lose your child who is only 19 or 20 and the realization that your child may never experience a major life event...marriage, children, or their first home. Would you not ache to give your child a dream? 

There are only two organizations in the U.S. that provide help for those in this age group, but with over a thousand people in the U.S. who will lose their battle each day, we must work feverishly to keep up with many requests for our services.

The people we help are the people you know and love. They have a name, a story, and a dream. They have family and loved ones. They just want to smile and feel normal in what has become a medically centered life. Like us, they have always said "someday." Now is their time...now is our time to act. Without your help, we cannot help those who turn to us for their dream. You can be the change. Give a Dream its Wings to soar today...tomorrow may be too late.
